What’s On: Scone Horse Festival

Saddle up & get ready for a good time in the Upper Hunter!

The historic town of Scone is well known as the ‘Horse Capital of Australia’ and 2021 marks 40 years for the Scone Horse Festival, to be held this year from the 6th-16th May 2021.

The 10 Day Festival pays homage to all breeds of horses, including Thoroughbreds, Australian Stock Horses and Heavy Horses, as well as the men and women who breed and work with them.

To kick off the celebrations, this year’s 40th Anniversary Festival will launch with the biggest live music act the Upper Hunter has ever seen. An extraordinary night of live music & entertainment featuring Aussie Music icon Shannon Noll and the legendary international rockers Dragon! Tickets for this family music event, being held on Thursday 6th May 20201, are on sale from as little as $15 for children & $37.50 for adults. Book your tickets early to avoid disappointment!

Following the launch, the 10 day festival will entertain visitors of all ages, with a range of demonstrations, events and fun – from World Class Horse racing, polo, tentpegging, stud tours and Farriers’ competition, to charity rodeo, Bush Poets, sheep dog trials, Yarns night, markets, kids rides and the grand finale fireworks family picnic event on the picturesque Lake Glenbawn.

Scone, ‘Horse Capital of Australia’ is located on the New England Highway and can be accessed by car, train, bus and private plane, with a wide selection of accommodation options available in Scone and the surrounding towns.
